Job Description A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in NLR’s Materials, Chemical and Computational Science Directorate for investigating Spin and Charge Manipulation in novel 2D chiral hybrid semiconductors. The position will focus on the synthesis and characterization of chiral hybrid semiconductors for spintronic and energy applications using solution growth techniques. The collaborative environment requires a candidate who can interface with researchers of different disciplines and learn topics outside their area of expertise.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be expected to communicate their results to internal stakeholders and in more traditional journal publications, and conference presentations. In general, candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in technical activities associated with automation and be comfortable formulating value proposition automation use cases in a technologically relevant way while addressing key science questions to challenging problems as part of a team effort.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle waste properly and keep a clean, well-organized work environment. .

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years. • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date. Additional Required Qualifications This position requires specialization in inorganic or materials chemistry with an emphasis on solution growth of organometallic compounds (and related) or characterization of such compounds. The primary role of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be the growth of hybrid compounds via solution techniques and their characterization, not limited to single crystal X-ray diffraction, microscopy, basic optical spectroscopy (UV-VIS, FTIR), NMR, TGA, and DSC.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience with air-free chemistry such as utilizing Schlenk line techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to formulate testable research hypotheses and independently lead experiments in the laboratory. Critically analyze results and present research updates, propose research experiments on a regular basis and draft manuscripts. Candidate should be well versed in nanoscience materials of current interest, hybrid materials, chirality, novel device platforms and synthesis. Experience synthesizing organometallic compounds or colloidal nanocrystals is preferred. . Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Postdoctoral Researcher / Annual Salary Range: $76,600 - $126,400 NLR takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
