About You and This Role Dow is seeking an Analytical Research Specialist to join our Research & Development organization at the Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta site in Canada. In this role, you will apply advanced measurement science and analytical techniques to solve complex technical challenges, support manufacturing operations, and accelerate innovation across Dow's portfolio. Working as part of a cross-functional team, you will develop and implement analytical methodologies, generate high-quality scientific data, and provide technical expertise that supports technology development, product commercialization, manufacturing excellence, and sustainability initiatives.

You will play a key role in establishing and advancing the analytical capabilities required to support Fort Saskatchewan operations and Dow's Path2Zero growth strategy. Experience with separation science, including gas chromatography and other analytical techniques, is highly valued. Responsibilities Develop, optimize, validate, and document analytical methods to support research, manufacturing, and technology development objectives. Design and execute laboratory experiments to generate high-quality scientific data and technical insights.

Qualify, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and measurement systems to ensure reliable analytical performance. Support process technology development, manufacturing readiness, and the scale-up of new technologies and products. Develop product characterization protocols that enable product development and commercialization efforts. Provide analytical expertise during commissioning, startup, and operational support activities for manufacturing assets. Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Process Technology, and external stakeholders to solve complex analytical and process-related challenges.

Generate and interpret scientific data that supports sustainability initiatives, environmental stewardship, and regulatory commitments. Contribute to innovation projects aligned with decarbonization, circular economy, and technology advancement objectives. Evaluate emerging analytical technologies and continuously improve laboratory capabilities, processes, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Must have

obtained either a bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science, or related scientific discipline and 2 or years of relevant experience OR a master's degree or PhD in a related scientific discipline. Experience with gas chromatography, chromatography-based separations, spectroscopy, OR other advanced analytical techniques. Class 5 Driver’s License A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting manufacturing operations, process development, or technology commercialization. Demonstrated ability to interpret complex scientific data and solve technical problems. Skills Analytical Method Development: Ability to develop, optimize, and validate analytical methodologies that support research, commercialization, and manufacturing objectives. Chromatography & Advanced Instrumentation: Expertise in gas chromatography, separation science, and other analytical techniques used to characterize materials and solve technical challenges.

Scientific Problem Solving: Ability to analyze complex data, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions to analytical and manufacturing issues. Data Analysis & Interpretation: Ability to generate, evaluate, and communicate scientific data that supports business, operational, and sustainability decisions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with researchers, engineers, manufacturing teams, and external partners to achieve project objectives. Technology Scale-Up & Commercialization: Understanding of how analytical science supports process development, manufacturing readiness, product commercialization, and startup activities.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Ability to identify opportunities to enhance analytical capabilities, adopt new technologies, and improve laboratory efficiency and effectiveness. Additional Notes Occasional work outside of standard business hours (including evenings and weekends) is required to support plant turnarounds and/or operational upsets.
