Job description

- We are seeking a hands-on R&D Engineer with an excellent engineering foundation in mechanical design of high pressure industrial equipment including seal design, oil and gas equipment, pumps, compressors or equivalent relevant design experience. The candidate should also have experience designing test fixtures and the ability to successfully lead an R&D project from conception to completion.
- Plan, Execute and Document ongoing projects and tests
- Take ownership of safe working habits and provide leadership to the test team on working safely
- Understand and participate in the NCR process for determining the root cause of problems. Assist to implement corrective actions.
Qualifications and skills required
Education
- Bachelor's (Required) - in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Expert in relevant industry codes and standards such as ASME, API, ISO.
- Demonstrated 10+ years of experience in mechanical design of high pressure industrial equipment including seal design, oil and gas equipment, pumps, compressors or equivalent relevant design experience.
- 10+ years experience in performing calculations for designs, and formulating a design of experiment to test designs.
- Proficient in CAD (Solidworks preferred)
- Mechanically / electrically inclined - Someone who has worked on cars, equipment, or has the ability to fix things is preferred.
- Proven expert project management skills including, planning, scheduling, documentation and stakeholder communication.
Strong understanding of
- Hydraulic/ Pneumatic Systems and Components
- Data Aquisition Systems
- Mechanical Drawings per ASME Y14
- Component dimensional inspection techniques and methods
- Ability to mentor less experienced team members.

- Attitude and personality: Candidates must show a willingness to learn on and off the job with a desire for continual improvement of themselves and their workplace. The candidate must show good attention to detail as well as a strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions. We need HIGH energy candidates.
- Mathematics: The candidate must know how to perform a free body diagram analysis and be proficient with hand calculations for stress analysis.
- Physical: You must be able to lift 45lbs to chest level. You must be prepared to stand during work hours.
- Problem solving: The candidate must be prepared to solve problems with the help of leadership. Good communication skills are necessary.
- Computer skills: Previous experience with Labview is highly desired.
- CAD: Solidworks experience preferred, 10+ years experience in CAD - will be tested to ensure knowledge of software
- Computer: You must know how to use spreadsheets and have some knowledge on logic and basic programing of any system.
- Troubleshooting: you will be asked to demonstrate an ability to troubleshoot electromechanical/hydraulic systems.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for R&D projects; the job is a Project Manager, Design Engineer and Test Engineer all distilled down into one role.
- Develop project plans that include the following steps: Defining Scope, Identifying Risks, Documenting the Project Plan, Evaluating Costs and ROI, Managing and Updating Plan, and Communicating Project Updates.
- Create fully documented designs and test plans per relevant industry standards
- Develop detailed knowledge of API 6A PR2F and ISO 15848 and other standards as required
- Create work instructions and procedures under direction of the Engineering Director
- Assist Test Lab Manager with the NCR Process. Determine the root cause of failure when testing results deviate from expected outcome.
- Create test set-up detailed drawings
- Assist Technicians with test set-up, execution and tear down of tests
- Assist with planned and unplanned maintenance of testing equipment
- Mentor less experienced team members, support other departments as needed with technical expertise
- Participate in and demonstrate leadership in safe work practices
