About the Manufacturing Company / The Opportunity
Join a manufacturing organization developing and supplying technical solutions for foundry operations. In this hands-on role, you will serve as a technical expert for refractory coatings, advancing formulations and product performance while supporting manufacturing teams and customers. You’ll work across laboratory, plant, and foundry environments to solve practical challenges and bring improved products from development through field validation.
Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and optimize refractory coatings for ferrous foundry applications, including dip, brush, and spray methods.
- Design and conduct laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process blends, and finished products.
- Support new product development from initial formulation through scale-up, field trials, and commercial implementation.
- Troubleshoot coating application, adhesion, rheology, consistency, surface condition, and high-temperature performance issues.
- Partner with customers and cross-functional teams to recommend effective technical solutions and provide training.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams on product consistency, process improvements, specifications, and corrective actions.
- Evaluate and qualify raw materials and suppliers, supporting cost optimization without compromising performance.
- Maintain accurate technical records and reports while following applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Must-Have Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- At least five years of experience in industrial coatings formulation, product development, technical service, or related materials technology.
- Hands-on experience with formulation development, laboratory testing, scale-up, and field validation.
- Strong knowledge of formulation chemistry, coating rheology, refractory materials, and coating application methods.
- Understanding of iron and steel foundry processes and coating interactions with molds, cores, and molten metal environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and technical communication skills.
- Ability to work safely in laboratory, manufacturing, and customer foundry environments.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with refractory coatings for ferrous foundry applications.
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations and customer-facing technical activities.
- Familiarity with quality systems, process controls, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods.
- Experience with laboratory testing or data-management software.
- Bilingual English and Spanish capability.
