Role details
The Chemistry Department at The College of Wooster invites applications for a visiting position in Chemistry at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in January 2024. We are looking for a broadly trained chemist with a commitment to teaching excellence. Primary responsibilities include teaching general chemistry courses and laboratories within one’s specialization. The undergraduate curriculum is shaped to prepare all students to engage in our nationally recognized Senior Independent Study research program. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
Ideally, the applicant will serve in the position for one year, but we are open to a single-semester appointment if the candidate prefers. We are especially interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. The College of Wooster enrolls a diverse student body (24% domestic students of color and 17% international students); all applicants are expected to discuss their experience working with diverse student populations. The Department of Chemistry is housed in a modern teaching/research space that was renovated and expanded in 2018 to integrate with our life science facilities.
The department has 8 full-time faculty members and graduates approximately 15-20 majors annually, many of whom pursue advanced study and/or careers in chemistry. For more information see https://wooster.edu/area/chemistry/ .
