Role details

Tufts University Department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a faculty member at the Assistant Professor level in sensors and embedded systems. Ideally, candidates’ research will explore macro-scale applications related to acoustics, smart materials, medical devices, energy systems, or aerospace applications. Candidate research themes also have the potential to complement broader, interdisciplinary initiatives at the School of Engineering and university levels in sustainability, materials engineering, and artificial intelligence. The candidate should be capable of teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to current curricula and new research directions.

Additional information about the department can be found at http://engineering.tufts.edu/me. Tufts distinguishes itself by the interdisciplinary focus and integrative nature of its education and research programs, within the environment of both a "Research 1" university and a top-ranked undergraduate institution. We offer the best of a liberal arts college atmosphere, coupled with the resources of a major research university. Home to nine graduate and professional schools across four campuses, Tufts University prides itself on its culture of cross-school partnerships.

Tufts' Medford/Somerville campus is located only six miles from historic downtown Boston, facilitating extensive opportunities for academic and industrial collaborations, as well as participation in the rich intellectual life of the region. General/Professor rank: A doctorate in engineering or a related field is required, and all candidates must have experience in electromechanical modeling, embedded systems, and data acquisition. The candidate should demonstrate a successful track record of research and mentoring with the potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program.

The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs, and thus, candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
