Role details
Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, USA, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the broad areas of Energy Systems, Thermal and Fluid Sciences, and Nanoscale Science. We seek candidates who will advance these fields through innovative experimental, theoretical, or computational research.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, energy conversion and storage; sustainable energy and building technologies; heat and mass transfer; fluid dynamics and multiphase flows; nanoscale transport; and thermal engineering for applications spanning advanced electronics, AI computing and data centers, quantum technologies, biomedicine, and aerospace. We welcome research that bridges disciplines and connects fundamental discoveries with solutions to pressing societal and technological challenges.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in a relevant field. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain an outstanding, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and engage in collaborative research across Cornell. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Cornell’s interdisciplinary graduate field system and research centers foster a strong culture of collaboration. New faculty will have exceptional opportunities to collaborate with faculty, research scientists, and graduate students across fields such as Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Systems Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, and through centers and facilities such as the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, Cornell Energy Systems Institute, Cornell NanoScale Science and Technology Facility, and AFRL Regional Network–Mid-Atlantic Hub.
If you have additional questions, you can contact Professor Zhiting Tian ([email protected]). All applications received by November 15th, 2026 will receive full consideration this academic year.
How to apply and what to submit: The anticipated starting date is July 1, 2027 or as negotiated. Qualified applicants should submit:
