Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills for data analysis, charts, and presentations.
- Experience leading multiple cross-functional projects.
- Proven experience analyzing data to identify root causes and implement countermeasures.
- Experience creating and presenting reports to management.
- 1+ year evaluating color and appearance of painted surfaces.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods.
- Ability to travel up to 30%, including U.S., Canada, and Mexico; occasional Japan travel.
- Steel-toed shoes above the ankle are required.
- Toyota provides hard hat, cap, gloves, ear plugs, and safety glasses.
Job Description
Seeking a Paint Materials Engineer to support new material development, new model color paint trials, current production initiatives, material cost reduction, and improved paint/material performance. The role will work closely with production engineering teams, NAMCs, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead new color and material introductions from lab workability through online testing and production approval.
- Plan trials, conduct quality evaluations, and provide recommendations for paint and resin shops.
- Establish process controls and parameters for new materials and technologies.
- Lead material-related problem solving using TBP methods, including root-cause analysis and countermeasures.
- Evaluate CPU and environmental impacts of new materials and quantify cost/benefits.
- Support Paint Production Engineering Hoshin objectives.
- Coordinate projects with internal departments, vendors, suppliers, and external groups.
- Create and present technical reports and recommendations to multiple levels of management.
Nice to Have
- B.S. or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science.
- TBP completed through panel.
- SME/internal auditor experience for North American QR/QS/QH processes.
- Paint Pilot project experience.
- 1+ year paint lab/workability evaluation experience.
- Basic Japanese or Spanish language skills.
