Job Summary

The Quality Engineer will serve as a key technical resource responsible for quality investigations, corrective and preventive actions, customer quality support, process improvement initiatives, and operational excellence efforts. This position is expected to drive measurable improvements in product quality, scrap reduction, process capability, and manufacturing efficiency while supporting compliance with customer, regulatory, and certification requirements.

The Quality Engineer will work closely with operations, quality control, maintenance, tooling, and customers to improve product quality, reduce scrap, maintain compliance, and support new product development activities. The position will also support ongoing quality system initiatives including ISO 9001, SQF, ISO 14001, and future ISO 13485 implementation efforts.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quality Engineering & Investigations
  • Lead root cause investigations related to: internal non conformances, customer complaints, elevated scrap events, and supplier-related quality concerns.
  • Develop, implement, and verify effectiveness of Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA).
  • Analyze quality trends and identify opportunities for systemic improvement.
  • Prepare technical reports and customer responses related to investigations and corrective actions.
  • Customer Quality & Validation Support
  • Serve as a primary technical quality contact for customers.
  • Support customer audits, quality reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Lead customer-related validation activities and quality studies.
  • Support First Article Inspections (FAI), capability studies, and process qualification efforts.
  • Assist with customer-specific quality documentation and validation requirements.
  • Risk Management & Inspection Planning
  • Lead and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) activities.
  • Develop risk-based inspection strategies, control plans, and sampling methodologies.
  • Support development of product inspection criteria in conjunction with the Quality Control Team Lead.
  • Evaluate process risks and implement appropriate controls.
  • Continuous Improvement & Manufacturing Support
  • Analyze process performance and scrap data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead projects focused on scrap reduction, process optimization, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to production, quality, maintenance, and tooling teams.
  • Support troubleshooting of manufacturing and quality issues.
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements and engineering changes.
  • Supplier Quality
  • Support supplier qualification and performance monitoring activities.
  • Review supplier corrective actions and effectiveness.
  • Participate in supplier quality investigations and improvement efforts.
  • Quality System Documentation & CAPA Support
  • Assist in maintaining CAPA, deviation, and quality system documentation to ensure records remain complete and properly tracked.
  • Support documentation development associated with investigations and corrective actions led by the Quality & Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Monitor status of corrective actions and assist in maintaining accurate quality system logs.
  • Quality Management System & Compliance
  • Support compliance with: SQF Food Safety Code, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, ISO 13485 implementation initiatives
  • Support external certification audits and customer audits.
  • Participate in internal audits and management review activities.
  • Assist in maintaining audit readiness throughout the facility.
  • New Product Development & Engineering Support
  • Support new product introduction activities from concept through production release.
  • Participate in prototyping, sampling, and manufacturability evaluations.
  • Assist with development of specifications, quality plans, and validation requirements.
  • Support engineering documentation and revision control activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with FMEA, control plans, SPC, capability studies, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience supporting customer audits and validation activities.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication abilities.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor degree
  • ISO 9001 experience
  • Experience in manufacturing environment

Computer Skills: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
