Role details
Purpose: This position is responsible for evaluation of adhesives & primers, analysis of samples to support the north American automotive business and R&D development activities within Northwood plant and globally. This position will participate in maintaining Environment, Health and Safety and chemical activities. To be successful in this position, one needs to be detail-oriented, self-starter and flexible.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate new or improved adhesive and primer systems for automotive glass and report results to OE personnel and suppliers/customers
- Evaluate bonding to new substrates or coatings and the effect of surface treatment techniques
- Perform physical/mechanical testing using Instron Universal Test Machines, Impact and Torque testers, weathering equipment and other durability testing
- Conduct chemical & physical analysis on samples using techniques such as FT-IR, DSC and SEM-EDS
- Perform validation testing according to customer specifications
- Present and discuss testing results with internal team and/or customers. Write technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
- Manage data & records, statistical analysis and communicate results
- Support in maintaining chemical inventory, SDS database, and proper disposal of hazardous waste
- Adhere to Northwood EH&S policies and assist with recycling and other ISO14001 targets and objectives
- Maintain Quality records (e.g. laboratory notebook and documents) in accordance with TS16949 standards
- Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
- Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability to use hand-tools and operate machinery
- Proven analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize samples and associated data
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficient in the English language (verbal and written)
Qualifications Desired:
- 2-3 term intern/co-op experience
- Experience handling chemicals
