Role Description
The Research and Development Chemist is a full-time role based in San Jose, CA with a hybrid work arrangement that allows for some work from home. In this role, the chemist will design, develop, and optimize advanced materials and coatings for micro-electronic and optoelectronic applications, including formulating new products and improving existing ones. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, documenting results, and preparing technical reports and presentations.
The chemist will collaborate with cross-functional teams on product scale-up, quality control, and process improvement, as well as support troubleshooting and technical customer inquiries. The role also involves maintaining laboratory equipment, following safety protocols, and staying current with relevant scientific literature and industry trends.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret experimental data, troubleshoot issues, and draw clear conclusions.
- Hands-on Research and Development (R&D) experience in chemistry, materials science, or a related field, preferably within micro-electronics or advanced materials.
- Solid laboratory skills, including safe handling of chemicals, experimental design, documentation, and equipment maintenance.
- Experience with coatings, adhesives, or related chemistries, including formulation, application, and performance evaluation.
- Quality control experience, such as developing test methods, performing routine testing, and ensuring product consistency.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree is a plus.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques (e.g., rheology, thermal analysis, spectroscopy, chromatography) used in materials characterization.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work safely, independently, and as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.
