Job Summary

The Analytical Technician works on assigned projects under the general supervision of the Director of Polymer Research and the direction of the Analytical Services Manager. This job is primarily involved with analysis and examination of the component parts of resin products. It involves the operation of laboratory equipment required for testing, analyzing, classifying and reporting on resins for experimental or production purposes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs defined and interactive tests, creates interpretive reports, evaluates results and pertinent observations, and makes adjustments of procedures or sample preparation based on the results and observations.
  • Performs experiments related to customer problems, formulation development, resin experimentation, etc.
  • Develops and maintains proficiency at performing tests contained in the PLENCO Standard Testing Methods for Resin manual, and most other published wet chemistry tests.
  • Maintains basic analytical proficiency in the use of analytical balances, pH meters, volumetric dilutions and manual titrations.
  • Maintains familiarity with the basic operation and maintenance of all analytical instrumentation.
  • Interacts with menu systems and standard command line instructions of all computer-controlled instruments.
  • Extracts data from instruments consistent with levels of expertise.
  • Develops knowledge and familiarity of equipment to allow the ability to recognize invalid instrument output.
  • Demonstrates computational skills including using programmable calculators, applying supplied formulas, performing unit conversions, dilution calculations, and data entry of test results.
  • Uses and maintains knowledge of current computer programs used in labs for data entry, analysis, etc.
  • Prepares concise reports of numerical results along with the summary of procedures used.
  • Reports findings, observations, test data, conclusions, and unusual occurrences observed during experimentation.
  • Provides input on development of new or improved PLENCO products.
  • Assists with training personnel on test procedures and laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Performs minor maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Recommended Experience and Training

  • High school or equivalent
