About The Role
We're looking for a Mold Tooling Engineering Manager to lead mold design, tooling, and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) efforts for medical cable assembly and connector products. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing an internal tool shop, with direct impact on new product development and sustaining engineering for injection-molded connector components, TPU/TPE over-molded parts, and low-pressure molded interim shot tooling.
You'll lead a team of toolmakers and mold design engineers, partner closely with product engineering, and work directly with domestic and offshore mold shops from tool design through qualification. If you have deep tooling expertise and want ownership over both the technical and people side of a tool shop, this role offers both.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage an internal tool shop, including toolmakers and mold design engineers
- Lead DFM reviews on new product designs, identifying draft requirements, parting lines, undercuts, shut-offs, wall transitions, and tooling risks
- Design and/or review injection molds for medical connector components, over-molded strain reliefs, and cable assemblies
- Guide tooling concepts including gating, venting, cooling, steel conditions, surface finishes, slides, lifters, and other mold actions
- Partner with product engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable, robust, and cost-effective
- Interface with domestic and offshore mold shops during tool design, build, debug, and qualification
- Support sustaining engineering teams with tooling-related issues, yield improvements, and design updates
What You Bring
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in mold design, tooling, or toolmaking
- Associate's degree or higher in engineering, manufacturing, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Working proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software
- Ability to run effective DFM and tooling feasibility reviews with engineering teams and suppliers
- Strong background in medical device or other regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience working with global manufacturing partners
Nice to Have
- Experience in medical connector and cable assembly mold design, tooling engineering, or toolmaking
- Background as a journeyman toolmaker or significant shop floor experience
- Familiarity with medical validation environments (IQ/OQ/PQ awareness)
Compensation And Benefits
$110,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience. Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, short and long-term disability, 401(k), HSA/FSA, PTO, life insurance, and employee discounts.
