THE ROLE

As a member of the Ink Materials Development Group, you will have the opportunity to help shape the next generation of electrophoretic displays. The Ink Scientist will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling electrophoretic ink formulations while also contributing to the design, processing, and scale-up of other electrophoretic materials, including pigments, colloidal dispersions, and microcapsules. This work will span early feasibility through commercialization.

The Ink Scientist will collaborate with cross-functional and cross-disciplinary teams to develop solutions that address both the technical and business needs of each project. Over time, this individual will develop into a subject-matter expert capable of contributing across multiple project teams and technology platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Formulate and optimize electrophoretic inks for novel, high-performance applications.

• Investigate pigment-modification chemistries, including surface-functionalization and polymerization techniques.

• Establish structure-property relationships for novel electrophoretic ink components and formulations.

• Evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility of ink formulations, component designs, and synthetic pathways.

• Identify, evaluate, optimize, and control critical-to-performance properties of raw materials, engineered materials, and finished formulations.

• Design and execute experiments using design of experiments, statistical analysis, and other data-driven approaches to improve formulation performance, efficiency, robustness, and reliability.

• Assist in the design, development, scale-up, and optimization of chemical processes used to manufacture novel electrophoretic ink components.

• Plan, schedule, execute, analyze, and present experiments and results.

• Collaborate with analytical scientists to characterize pigments, dispersions, and ink formulations.

• Document ink-component designs, formulation and manufacturing procedures, and material specifications within the document-control system.

• Meet project commitments, identify technical and schedule risks, and proactively develop contingency plans.

• Participate in root-cause investigations and troubleshooting efforts involving internally manufactured and externally supplied materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A BS, MS or Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related fields

• 5- 6+ years of industrial experience in scientific or engineering discipline

• Knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis is preferred

• Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: formulation science, pigment processing, surface chemistry, colloidal phenomena, non-aqueous chemistry, dyes, polymer chemistry, or surfactants.

• Ability to contribute effectively as a member of cross-functional and cross-disciplinary teams working toward shared goals.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver technical presentations and prepare clear technical reports.

COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE

At E Ink, we believe in rewarding employees with competitive total compensation through a combination of base salary and performance-based bonuses, with a larger portion of total compensation delivered through our annual bonus program than is typical at many companies. To provide applicants with a more complete picture of our compensation philosophy, we are disclosing both the estimated annual total compensation and the annual base salary range for this position. For this position, the estimated annual total compensation range is

$155,000 to $240,000, based on the Company's most recent annual bonus payout. The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000.

The annual base salary range reflects the Company's good-faith estimate of the base salary it reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual starting base salary is determined based on job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, certifications, and other qualifications. Annual bonus payments are based on Company performance, are not guaranteed, and may be higher or lower than the estimate reflected above.
