Product Engineer

Role details

FUNCTION: Performs all functions required to design, develop and test a broad range of new products, special products and to modify and enhance existing products.

QUALITY: 1. Follows established NPD procedures and processes and ensures proper documentation is being developed for design efforts. 2. Works with production and manufacturing engineering departments to develop agreed upon product specifications as required. 3. Provides technical assistance to our customers, customer service and sales staff, including our sales representatives. 4. Participate in devising ways to effectively implement the principles of Lean and support a culture of continuous improvement.

DELIVERY: 1. Investigate, organize and develop project feasibilities studies, based on product concepts, encompassing basic engineering disciplines and cost estimating, as related to the company product line families. 2. Design and develop new products, specials, and improve existing products. Coordinate prototyping and prepares drawings, bills of material, and all documentation required. 3. Develop product parts, component design and drawings, including material specifications, dimensions, structure, and tolerance requirements. 4. Provides technical data and drawings for product literature and installation instructions, and for other marketing and sales presentations. 5.

Prepares and issues related engineering change notices and assigns part numbers as required.

COST: 1. Coordinates, with marketing, purchasing, manufacturing and accounting, to estimate the cost and set tentative time schedules for new, special or enhanced products.

Responsible for any other special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCED REQUIRED:

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3 years minimum product design experience, 5 years desired along with lighting products experience
• Experience designing plastic thermoformed, injection molded, compression molded parts and sheet metal parts
• Familiarity with UL, CSA and other related lighting standards
• Strong communication skills.
• Computer literate, experience in AutoCAD, and Solid Edge, Inventor or other 3D solid modeling software.
