Job Title: Injection Molding Specialist

Job Description

The Injection Molding Specialist develops, validates, and optimizes injection molding processes for powersports components, ensuring they meet durability, safety, quality, cost, and delivery requirements. In this role, you support new product introductions and ongoing production by coordinating mold trials, troubleshooting molding issues, and establishing repeatable, highquality manufacturing processes. You work closely with operations, tooling, design engineering, and suppliers to improve manufacturability, part performance, and process capability across rugged, mixedvolume production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and optimize injection molding and related manufacturing processes to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures for injection molding operations.
  • Conduct direct labor studies using accepted engineering practices to establish labor standards, workstation layouts, and setup methods.
  • Analyze current manufacturing methods and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, material flow, and cost efficiency in molding and assembly areas.
  • Define tooling and fixturing requirements and collaborate with tooling designers and suppliers to develop or procure new molds, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Identify areas of unnecessary cost and research methods for cost reduction, work cell optimization, and improved utilization of molding equipment.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and injection molding processes to ensure stable, repeatable production.
  • Review product and process designs and provide recommendations to improve manufacturability, part performance, quality, and overall cost.
  • Develop capital equipment justifications and provide recommendations for capital expenditures related to molding presses, auxiliary equipment, and tooling.
  • Support budgeting activities and evaluate make-versus-buy decisions for new and existing products, considering process capability and cost.
  • Coordinate and lead mold trials, process validation activities, and production ramp-up for new or modified injection molded components.
  • Collaborate with operations, design engineering, tooling, and suppliers to resolve molding issues and drive continuous improvement in process capability.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineering or technical manufacturing employees, including setting expectations, coaching performance, and supporting development.
  • Use PC-based tools to analyze process data, prepare documentation, and generate reports that support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production or industrial environment.
  • Experience leading and managing engineering or technical manufacturing employees, including setting expectations, coaching performance, and supporting development.
  • Experience conducting labor studies and establishing manufacturing standards and workstation layouts.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixturing, and equipment support related to injection molding and general production.
  • Hands-on experience with injection molding and process engineering for molded components.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively across functions and levels.
  • Proficiency with PC-based tools used for documentation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated technical and functional expertise, applying professional knowledge to perform the role effectively and stay current in the field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, assess root causes, and implement practical solutions that balance speed, quality, and risk.
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to contribute to shared goals and respect diverse perspectives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced injection molding training such as specialized certifications or courses is a plus.
  • Certification in injection molding (for example, industry-recognized programs) preferred but not required.
  • Experience in rugged, mixed-volume production environments supporting powersports or similar durable goods is beneficial.
  • Background in developing capital equipment justifications and participating in make-versus-buy analyses for manufacturing operations.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and cost reduction initiatives in manufacturing settings.

The product portfolio includes side-by-side off-road vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, military and commercial off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, moto-roadsters, electric vehicles, and pontoon and deck boats, along with a robust range of parts, garments, and accessories that enhance the riding experience. You work closely with cross-functional teams in operations, engineering, tooling, and supply chain, using modern manufacturing equipment and PC-based tools for documentation, analysis, and reporting.

The culture emphasizes employee ownership, pay-for-performance, and long-term financial wellbeing, supported by profit-sharing programs, an employee stock ownership plan, discounted stock purchase opportunities, and generous 401(k) matching with financial wellness education and consultation.
