Worth knowing

Why it is interesting. Hands-on testing of polyethylene-extrusion-coated paper (heat seal, pinhole, dyne, X-cut adhesion) tied directly to production.

Might not be for you. Repetitive manual routine testing with a high school minimum, so little open-ended R&D.

It is expected that, to qualify for this position, it is required that you have completed all of the tasks and functions identified below.

What You’re Going To Do

Extruders

  • Analyze burr holes twice per shift.
  • Conduct heat seal and micro pit tests on every 5th reel sample for Extruders #6, 7, 8, and 9, ensuring product consistency and durability.
  • Perform pinhole, dyne treatment, and streak tests on every 5th reel sample for Extruders #6, 7, 8, and 9 to detect any surface or treatment issues.
  • Conduct aged adhesion (X-cut) tests on every 5th reel sample for Extruders #6,7,8, and 9.
  • Check dyne solutions daily to ensure they are not expired and replace them as needed to maintain testing accuracy.
  • Change burr hole and pinhole solutions every Monday to keep testing conditions optimal.
  • Monitor the temperature on the heat sealer, ensuring it is operating within the required parameters.
  • Complete the standardization report regularly to document test results and maintain equipment calibration records.
  • Complete the coffee wicking testing for the new coffee run.

Humidity

  • Change out lactic acid and Sorbit P solutions at the start of every shift to maintain accurate testing conditions.
  • Calibrate the Huygen bond tester, manual opacity meter, and brightness meters to ensure consistent and reliable results.
  • Perform manual internal bond tests to assess the paper's strength and integrity.
  • Manually test wet and dry tensile strength to measure the paper's ability to endure stress and ensure durability.
  • Conduct manual brightness and fluorescence tests to verify the paper's visual quality.
  • Perform Z-Directional Tensile (ZDT) tests manually to determine the internal bond strength of the paper and its resistance to separation.
  • Manually conduct modified excello tests to measure the amount of liquid absorbed through the edges of coated samples.Test edge smoothness manually to evaluate the quality of sample finishes.
  • Manually test for the presence of metals in samples to ensure product quality and safety.
  • Perform manual checks for curls in paper samples to ensure they maintain flatness.
  • Manually test the static coefficient of friction to assess the surface friction of samples.
  • Conduct dirt count tests manually to quantify contaminants in paper samples.
  • Complete the daily checklist and perform necessary checks and calibrations to keep all equipment running efficiently.
  • Responsible for coffee wicking testing for the new run.
  • Complete Cobb testing.
  • Responsible for any new and/or past tests needed to get the results for making sure the paper machine is in alignment for good paper.
