The successful applicant will possess deep expertise in aerospace manufacturing, a talent for solving complex problems, and the ability to translate engineering designs into consistent, high-quality production workflows.
Core Responsibilities
- Identify and validate materials suitable for aerospace components and structural assemblies.
- Refine and verify production techniques, such as brazing, welding, machining, forming, heat treatment, and composite bonding, to help ensure consistent manufacturing quality.
- Create and oversee the documentation of process standards, material specifications, and operational work instructions.
- Facilitate the transition of new products into production and assist with manufacturing readiness.
- Utilize systematic root-cause analysis to resolve production issues and address material defects.
- Implement and validate corrective measures to help prevent recurring production errors.
- Partner with mechanical engineering teams to assess the durability, manufacturability, and compatibility of materials.
- Oversee the certification and qualification of new equipment, processes, suppliers, and materials.
- Review production data to identify performance trends and help minimize scrap and rework rates.
- Engage in metallurgical evaluations, testing, and failure analysis within the laboratory.
- Assist with supplier audits and development to resolve material-related challenges.
- Draft technical documentation, including engineering reports and qualification records.
- Maintain adherence to all relevant customer, regulatory, and aerospace industry standards.
- Manage engineering changes and configuration control regarding material and process updates.
- Lead initiatives to improve process reliability, reduce cycle times, and lower production costs.
- Provide technical guidance to the manufacturing team to help resolve complex production obstacles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Practical background in composite manufacturing and material handling.
- Understanding of corrosion, coatings, surface treatments, heat treatment, fatigue, fracture, and material characterization.
- Experience with joining techniques such as soldering, adhesive bonding, brazing, or welding.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations, AS9100 standards, and aerospace material specifications.
- Proficiency in design of experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), and process capability analysis.
- Knowledge of metallographic analysis and non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures.
- Experience navigating regulatory, customer, or aerospace OEM qualification requirements.
