Worth knowing
Why it is interesting. Hyphenated GC/IR and TGA/IR work with freedom to modify and reconfigure FT systems from far-IR through visible
Might not be for you. Rapid one-to-two-week turnarounds across many parallel client projects, with minimal supervision and 10+ years required
Heads-up: Cover letter required

Analytical Chemist: Organic & Polymer Characterization
Analytical Answers is seeking an experienced (10+ years) analytical chemist with a strong background in instrumental analysis to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a significant background in FTIR, using multiple analytical sampling methods (i.e. not just ATR), including experience in hyphenated techniques (GC/IR and TGA/IR). Familiarity with hardware and software, modifying or supplementing these as necessary, with an ability to reconfigure FT systems from far-IR through the visible, should be part of candidate’s capabilities.
This is an independent position, and the scientist will be expected to propose, develop, and apply ad-hoc analytical techniques in a fast-changing environment with minimal supervision. Technicians limited to performing standardized, routine testing probably should not apply.
In addition to strong spectroscopy skills, a strong background in chromatographic (GC/IR, GC/MS, GC/FID, HPLC) and thermal techniques (TGA, DSC) is a requirement, and the candidate should be comfortable fast method development on these techniques. Analysis will be supplemented with optical imaging, along with a wide range of ‘wet’ chemical sample preparation and analysis techniques as necessary.
In this position, the scientist will work directly with clients individually or in a team, to help clients solve materials and processing problems, identify contamination, characterize failures, from initial start-up R&D to field failures. This is a fast-paced environment, where clients present problems which need rapid answers. Problems presented will seldom be long-term investigations, scientists should be comfortable with proposing and quoting an investigation, executing the investigation, and delivering a final report, within one to two weeks, all while managing multiple, parallel projects, and proposals.
Candidates must be qualified to work on ITAR-related materials (A “US Person”, normally a US Citizen or Permanent Resident). Please clearly indicate you are qualified as such.
This is a full-time, on-site position at our laboratory in Woburn, MA, with full benefits.
