Role details

Job Description Summary The materials and labs team is responsible for developing, characterizing, improving, and validating the materials used to fabricate wind turbine blades. Owning the materials within wind blades requires an advanced understanding of composite material chemistry and the analytical techniques needed to determine chemical and physical properties. As a Lead Analysis Engineer within the materials and labs team, you will be responsible for the material characterization and forensic analysis of materials used within wind turbine blades.

As a member of this team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of future GE Vernova wind blades by performing advanced material evaluations. Team members should have a drive to innovate new materials and improve current product performance through deep analytical insights. You will contribute to the resolution of field and plant Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities where material expert analysis is required. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities Conceptual and theoretical activities relating to the chemical and physical characterization of composite materials and resins.

Work closely with design team members to analyze material solutions that improve the structural capability and manufacturability of wind blades. Supports the resolution of factory issues and quality concerns via advanced material characterization techniques. Operates and maintains specialized analytical instrumentation, including Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Viscometers, and other rheological equipment. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience, explaining complex analytical data to bring team members to consensus. Contributes to the resolution of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities by providing forensic material data.

Uses technical experience and analytical thinking to interpret complex datasets and propose material solutions. Cradle-to-grave ownership of analysis projects, from sample preparation and instrument setup to data interpretation and final technical reporting. Support qualifications of new materials on a need by basis, encompassing writing material validation plans and reports Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the field of Materials Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering or a similar/related field.

Minimum 5 years with a Bachelor's or 3 years with a Master's degree working in the field of composites, with specific experience in material characterization/analytical chemistry. Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 10% of the time. Desired Characteristics Direct experience operating and troubleshooting SEM, FTIR, and rheological equipment. Ability and willingness to challenge the status quo to optimize GE products. Understanding of RCA methodologies and FMEA approach. Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with both senior management and laboratory staff. Proven record of being team-oriented and results-driven.
