The Engines Business Unit Chemical Process Engineer (Chemical Process Owner) may be located at any of the Howmet Engines Business Unit facilities. Using a disciplined process management approach, this position will team with Howmet Engines’ manufacturing operations to assess, optimize and implement sustainable chemical processes, such as caustic ceramic leaching, grain etching, and chemical milling, that lead to high product yield and quality.

Essential functions

include: Support the manufacture of Ni and Ti investment castings and high-temperature coatings through process control, automation, and data integration for open bath and pressure vessel chemical processes. Assess, optimize and implement new technologies, materials, and supplies for cost savings, process improvements, and quality improvements relative to chemicals and chemical processes used within the Engines Business Unit. Own responsibility for the revisions and upkeep of Business Unit Chemical Process Manuals to drive best practices across global manufacturing facilities.

Ensure chemical processes are performed in compliance with the methods, materials and equipment specifications as detailed in the Business Unit manuals, business operating procedures, industry requirements, and customer requirements. Support/lead internal and external audits of chemical processes and gap closures within the business unit global manufacturing facilities. Participate in NADCAP industry chemical process committees as a voting member to represent Howmet. Evaluate and document process changes, obtaining customer or engineering approval when required.

Perform root cause investigations on deviations from critical process specifications and provide technical support to Plant Engineering grounded in six sigma methodology to resolve Chemical Process related issues. Act as a conduit between Manufacturing Facilities and the Research Center to ensure that technology needs are communicated and new technology is rapidly tested and implemented.

Basic Qualifications

BS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution At least 3 years' experience developing, improving, or productionizing chemical processes in an industrial setting Demonstrates considerable ingenuity and creativity while recognizing prudent risk Ability to work in a self-directed or team environment with good organizational skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States, verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire, visa sponsorship is not available for this position This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.

ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry 3-5 years related experience in chemical process management or chemical process engineering in a production environment Knowledge of leaching, etching, or stripping of oxide ceramic materials and coatings Familiar with NADCAP requirements related to chemical processes used in investment casting operations. Prior NADCAP committee involvement is a plus. Proficient in MS Office tools and MiniTab.

Working knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC Green belt or Black belt certified in Six Sigma, experienced in Lean Manufacturing, and Process Management
