Job Purpose

---------------

Provide technical leadership for North American plastic bumper and instrument panel tooling by directing mold design, initial process development, and tooling maturation, producing optimized 3D models and stable machine process windows that enable reliable, high quality production.

Key Accountabilities

------------------------

• Lead and manage new model mold and tooling design by defining technical specifications and reviewing designs produced by external suppliers (20%)
• Lead tooling trials to define robust machine process windows and validate tooling performance to ensure mass production readiness (20%)
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify root causes of mold related issues and drive effective corrective actions for both new model and production tooling (15%)
• Translate customer requirements and specifications into new and existing molds/dies to ensure alignment with quality, functional, and production needs (10%)
• Design plastic injection molds, thermoforming jigs, and bumper/IP tooling using NX CAD to meet project, quality, and manufacturability objectives (5%)
• Perform mold flow and structural simulations to predict potential failure points and develop data‑driven countermeasures that enhance tooling performance (5%)
• Investigate and implement business related improvement items (10%)
• Investigate potential new model designs and provide feedback to product designers (10%)
• Provide mentorship and guidance to co-ops and other associates (5%)

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Plastics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering, Associate’s Degree with 4 years of additional relevant experience, or 6 years of additional relevant experience with no degree.

Minimum Experience

• 2-8 years of relevant experience based on education.

Other Job-Specific Skills

• CAD software experience
• Mechanical/manufacturing knowledge

Working Conditions

----------------------

• 50% office environment: sitting for extended periods and working on PC equipment
• 50% manufacturing environment: PPE required at all times in manufacturing environment, standing for prolonged periods (up to 8hrs), occasionally lifting up to 40lbs, occasionally working inside injection machines, potential exposure to heat, occasional exposure to dust, oil or grease
• Up to 20% travel required, including international (Japan, Canada, Mexico)
• Occasional weekend work is required to support line trials and minimize production impact. Weekend work averages approximately 7 weekends per year but may increase to as many as 20 weekends in high-demand years.
