Role details
Shape the Future with Us. At Lubrizol, we’re bringing to life the chemistry behind clean water, efficient transportation, reliable infrastructure, critical medicines, and the products people rely on every day through science, sustainability, and a culture of inclusion. As part of our global team, you’ll be empowered to make a real impact - on your career, your community, and the world around you. Job Type: Full-Time, On-Site Location: Brecksville, OH (with a planned move to Wickliffe) How You'll Make an Impact The Resin Process Engineer is a chemical engineering role focused on chemical process development, troubleshooting, and optimization for PVC/CPVC resin manufacturing.
We are seeking a chemical engineer with at least five years of hands-on chemical process engineering experience who can apply engineering fundamentals to solve process problems, improve manufacturing performance, and translate laboratory findings into practical plant improvements. The position is an individual contributor role using strong technical ownership, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to translate laboratory and chlorination process data into practical recommendations.
The Resin Process Engineer will work directly with plant engineers and operations teams, alongside R&D, quality, applications, and global technical teams, to drive process improvements and technology implementation. Resin and raw material qualification, testing capability development, and resin property modeling support this core process-engineering focus. In this role you will: Lead chlorination process troubleshooting and optimization in collaboration with plant engineers, applying chemical engineering fundamentals and process data analysis to reduce cycle time and improve process consistency and CPVC resin performance.
Support PVC/CPVC resin qualification and raw material evaluation activities to improve supply flexibility, product robustness, and business continuity. Provide engineering support for PVC/CPVC resin technology development, chlorination process improvement, and manufacturing support projects. Lead development, validation, and implementation of PVC/CPVC resin testing capabilities and related technical methods. Analyze experimental, chlorination process, and plant data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and recommend technical actions.
Drive digitalization initiatives by directing data cleanup, data linkage, and data structuring for historical and ongoing R&D datasets related to CPVC resin, compounds, formulations, processing conditions, test results, and performance outcomes. Drive PVC/CPVC resin property modeling to better understand structure-property-performance relationships and guide PVC/CPVC resin development, qualification, and performance improvement decisions. Support optimization of PVC/CPVC resin-related chlorination processes through modeling, technical analysis, experimentation, and cross-functional modeling.
Translate lab-scale findings into practical recommendations for plant support, chlorination process improvement, and technology implementation. Maintain and build technical domain knowledge related to PVC/CPVC resin systems, raw material qualification, chlorination process technology, and manufacturing support. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across R&D, manufacturing, quality, applications, and global technical teams to ensure timely execution of business-critical project work. Document technical findings, summarize recommendations, and communicate results clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
that Enable Your Success Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. 3+ years of Process engineering experience in chemical manufacturing including Co-op and internship experience. Experience applying chemical engineering fundamentals—including heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, and material and energy balances—to analyze and improve chemical processes. Experience working with plant engineers and operations teams to investigate problems and implement improvements. Experience using applied modeling and quantitative analysis to support and communicate technical decision making.
Experience translating laboratory data and observations into practical recommendations for process, plant, or manufacturing needs. Experience managing technical deliverables and prioritizing work across multiple project and plant support needs. Experience presenting highly technical information to diverse audiences including both highly technical peers and cross functional teams and less technical business professionals. Practical mindset with focus on business impact, plant readiness, safety, quality, and execution.
Preferred Qualifications
that Enable Your Success 5+ years of Process engineering experience in chemical manufacturing including Co-op and internship experience. Experience with PVC, CPVC, or related PVC/CPVC resin systems or chlorination process. Experience with analytical testing, method development, or resin characterization. Experience with process modeling, reactor/process development, or technology implementation. Experience supporting plant troubleshooting, manufacturing support, or process optimization. Experience with data cleanup, data structuring, data linkage, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, or AI/ML tools applied to R&D, product development, formulation, process, or manufacturing datasets.
