Job Description

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Looking to make a difference by solving tough, real-world problems? Electronic Systems employees work on the world’s most advanced electronics – from powering the Mars Rover to protecting the F-35 fighter jet to reducing carbon-dioxide emissions in the cities around the globe. At Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS), you’ll be among the brightest minds, working on the aerospace and defense industry’s most difficult problems. Our US Controls engineering team is already the leader in safety critical aerospace electronics and high-power electric drive systems for commercial transit. Now we’re drawing on that expertise to build energy storage solutions for electrically powered aircraft.

Developing batteries capable of safely powering aircraft is a tremendous challenge, but every day BAE Systems is getting closer to making sustainable aviation a reality. Drawing strength from our differences, we’re innovating for the future. And you can, too. Come build your career with us.

Our growing business is located in the Greater Binghamton area which is home to several sports teams, shopping centers, a growing downtown, the State University of New York at Binghamton, several large healthcare employers and some of New York’s top-ranked school districts. The area enjoys a rich heritage with multiple diverse communities with local cuisine and festival celebrations. From the area to an hour out there is access to hiking, skiing, lakes, waterparks, casinos, golfing, camping and vineyards. A 9/80 work schedule gives employees a great opportunity to experience all that the region has to offer and provides a balanced work and family lifestyle.

This individual will develop propulsion battery systems for conventional aircraft, helicopters, and Advanced Air Mobility vehicles using the latest cell and packaging technology. The role includes opportunities to create system architectures, develop requirements, design solutions, perform system integration and verify the design. As a technical leader in our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring successful technical execution of development programs, providing critical input to Systems Engineering discipline processes and growing the organization’s talent pipeline through mentoring and coaching.

Responsibilities

The role includes applying system engineering principles to development of aerospace propulsion battery systems through one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, allocate and manage complex system, hardware and software requirements
  • Research and develop complex, safety critical, high power battery system designs and architectures
  • Define hardware, software, and programmable logic interfaces and functionality
  • Prepare and/or review documentation for system designs and architectures in accordance with established system development processes and procedures
  • Perform system and/or product integration
  • Verify and validate complex aspects of system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements
  • Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards

Candidates should possess strong communication skills both written and oral. Candidates should also demonstrate sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface, coordinate and negotiate with company personnel, customers and suppliers. An individual at this level should demonstrate the ability to lead small work groups or program teams.

BAE Systems offers competitive pay, benefits, and important work-life balance initiatives including every other Friday Off, Flextime, and Telecommuting. BAE also believes in a culture of recognition for the extraordinary contributions of our skilled employees. This position is based in Endicott, NY.
