Role details
The Test Engineer is responsible for design, execution, and management of energy storage testing within the Battery Innovation Center Test and Evaluation group. The responsibilities include customer engagement, quoting and project management of battery testing projects and programs. The Test Engineer fulfills all necessary duties to help the Test & Evaluation department maintain a highly functioning and productive work environment.
Essential Duties
and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: • Conduct various performance tests in accordance with test criteria established by the approved statement of work, procedures, and/or written test plans and maintain company standards of accuracy in records of test results, report results to the appropriate parties. • Familiarization of Battery Test Equipment (Maccor, Arbin, Bitrode, Webasto, etc.) • Preparing scripts for testing protocols and the analysis and report writing of test data • Monitor team projects, with regards to project status, completion time, and any problems that may have arisen during the project to accurately assess resource needs and BIC impact. • Identify opportunities for improvement and gaps in testing and engineering process and procedures, personnel skill sets and equipment/capabilities and ensure team capabilities and techniques remain at the forefront of advancements in industry. • Attend client meetings to discuss team opportunities; identify client needs and evaluate alternative business solutions as well as present and explain proposals, reports, or findings to clients. • Perform administrative functions, such as reviewing or writing reports, approving expenditures, or enforcing rules. • Utilize team members to their fullest potential, encourage collaboration, mitigate conflict, foster positive communication, acknowledgment, and appreciation. • Track team lessons learned and share evaluations with team members when appropriate. • Ensure deployment of appropriate methods for testing and calibration services offered by the laboratory. • Supervise technical personnel for technical project assignments. • Arrange incoming inspection of laboratory supplies and laboratory equipment. • Participate in supplier selection process. • Ensure calibration of laboratory equipment and reference standards. • Identify the training needs of personnel working in the testing department. • Assist in conducting internal audits and supplier audits. • Operate required machinery and equipment in a safe manner following established safety rules, maintain a neat and clean work area, follow established tool and instrument control procedures, and report any unsafe acts or conditions to the immediate supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
(Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Education/Experience/Qualifications: • B.S. degree (M.S. or equivalent experience preferred) in Electrical, Systems, or equivalent Engineering program. • 5-7 years of program management • Previous experience in advanced product/applications-based testing and evaluation. • 5-7 years of previous battery experience in testing capacity. • A solid understanding of the electrochemical + mechanical properties of batteries and energy storage systems, including analysis. • Technical advisory (oral and written) along with project outlook/outcome presentation skills. • Experience with microgrids and power electronics is a plus. • Experience with intellectual property establishment and analysis also a plus • Programming and automation experience is required. • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) experience required. • Must possess excellent communication, prioritization, attention to detail, interpersonal, and organizational skill sets. • Strong time management and project management experience. • Familiarization with battery testing equipment; Maccor, Arbin, Webasto machinery, etc.

The employee is occasionally required to wear a respirator or similar piece of breathing equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
