Role details

A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Senior Electrical Engineer – High-Speed Optoelectronics Device at MKS, you will support the development of advanced optoelectronic products used in optical communication test systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and analysis of high-speed analog optoelectronic hardware, working closely with senior technical leaders and cross-functional engineering teams. This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in optical communications, high-speed electronics, or photonic systems who wants to expand their expertise across optics, electronics, and system-level design.

The role includes hands-on design, simulation, characterization, debugging, and product development activities. You Will Make an Impact By: Design, analyze, and test high-speed optoelectronics devices. Contribute to product development from concept through production release. Participate in design reviews and technical problem solving. Support manufacturing, sustaining engineering, and field investigations. Collaborate on designs of high-speed photodiodes (>100 GHz) Understand/specify all aspects related to the photodiode – epitaxial design, fabrication processes, its contribution to receiver performance, reliability, etc. Support RF and high-speed signal path development.

Perform laboratory measurements, troubleshooting, and performance characterization in both optical and electrical domains. Work closely with optical and RF engineers to optimize system performance. Work closely with FABs on all aspects of photodiode manufacturing. Engage in product introduction activities and releasing documentation. Perform simulations for device/circuit analysis. Develop models to predict photodiode performance. Carry out signal integrity and performance analysis activities. Correlate simulation results with laboratory measurements. Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of Travel is required. Skills You Bring: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Physics.

8+ years of experience in electronics or device development. Experience designing and debugging high-speed electronic circuits. Experience with photodiodes, TIAs, optical receivers, RF components and analysis, or related optoelectronic components or systems. Experience with device and circuit simulation tools: Device physics (carrier transport, absorption, bandwidth, dark current), Optical simulation (waveguide coupling, absorption, mode overlap), RF/electrical simulation, Layout and GDS generation. Strong hands-on laboratory skills. Experience supporting products through development and release.

Preferred Skills: Experience developing devices and electronics for high-speed optical communications or datacenter networking products. Experience working with 100G, 200G, 400G, or higher-speed optical communication systems. Familiarity with optical transceivers and receiver architectures. Experience with RF and microwave circuit design. Experience with fabrication of III-V devices. Experience using oscilloscopes, VNAs, BERTs, and optical test equipment. Familiarity with photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and advanced optoelectronic devices.
