Position Summary
Parker LORD is seeking a Sr. Scientist to join the Analytical Services Team in Erie, PA. In this laboratory-based role, you will lead and support short- and medium-term analytical projects for external customers, Parker LORD manufacturing sites, and internal technical teams. You will serve as a technical liaison, ensuring requests are completed on time while delivering clear, data-driven insights through written reports and verbal presentations.
As part of a collaborative team of scientists and technologists, you will contribute to the commercialization of new polymeric products, the development of emerging technologies, and the ongoing support of Parker LORD products used globally, including adhesives, sealants, and conductive materials. This role involves applying a range of analytical techniques, including chromatography, SEM, NMR, FTIR, rheology, and other chemical analysis methods, within a safe, inclusive, and highly technical laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead short to medium term projects of varying complexity; many having significant impact on revenue potential.
- Ensure results and reports are delivered on time, effectively communicate the results, and collaborate with customers on areas for improvement.
- Interfaces with multiple technology groups across the globe.
- Responsible for ensuring achievement of appropriate quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness, reproducibility, and timeliness of results as related to projects.
- Actively develops, improves, and disseminates new technologies/solutions in support of projects and customers.
- Proactively leads activities that provide general support to the department and company.
- Proactively brings new technology and processes into the technical community.
- Promotes safety and may lead in the development of new lab safety procedures.
- Conducts training for staff.
- Requires travel within the US, with possible international travel (less than 10%).
Qualifications
Required:
- BA/BS Degree in related discipline AND 4+ years relevant work experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Advanced knowledge of products and/or industry, detailed customer applications, detailed value proposition elements.
- Impact: Demonstrated track record of leading medium complexity projects. Leads portions of projects as a team member. Failure to achieve goals may cause delays in program schedules and may result in allocation of additional resources.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated track record of implementing technical solutions to a wide range of challenging problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives. Advanced design and execution of any set of parameters. Advanced data analysis, report generation. Sometimes develops technical solutions to highly complex problems.
- Strong knowledge of polymers, chemistry, and material science.
- Strong knowledge of analytical methods including spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, and metallurgy.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to participate effectively in cross-functional and global project teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in statistical methods and experimental design.
- Excellent use of personal computers and required software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, and SAP.
- Requires the handling of chemicals and must possess strong safety awareness with adherence to company quality standards; adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards and ethics policies.
- Possess strong attention to detail.
