About The Role

D-Wave is seeking a hands-on

**Senior PVD Hardware Engineer**

to support the operation, optimization, and continuous improvement of our PVD systems and thin-film deposition processes. Join our team to help build the hardware and processes behind the next generation of quantum computing.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining reliable fabrication operations, improving process performance and yield, and using data-driven analysis to solve technical challenges. Working closely with the Fabrication and R&D teams, you’ll independently own projects, identify opportunities for improvement, and help advance our process capabilities.

This role will initially be based in Dallas, Texas. The position is expected to relocate to another location within the United States by the end of 2028, with the specific location to be determined. Candidates must be willing and able to relocate within the United States as required.

What You'll Do

• Operate, monitor, and maintain PVD systems and associated equipment, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Own and optimize PVD modules and thin-film deposition processes within the fabrication flow.
• Design, execute, and analyze experiments using statistical methods and DOE to improve process performance, yield, and reliability.
• Maintain and improve processes of record (POR) and associated process documentation.
• Run wafer lots to support fabrication production and analyze PVD and film metrology data to identify trends and opportunities.
• Monitor equipment and lab infrastructure to proactively identify and address system or process issues.
• Develop and implement process improvements, working cross-functionally to resolve technical challenges and improve fabrication outcomes.
• Maintain accurate process and equipment data and communicate findings, recommendations, and potential roadblocks to stakeholders.
• Support vendor coordination, including equipment service, shipping, receiving, and material movement.
• Follow and promote rigorous lab safety, cleanliness, and cleanroom protocols.

**What you'll bring**

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting PVD systems, ideally AMAT Endura.
• Strong understanding of vacuum systems, thin-film deposition, and semiconductor fabrication processes.
• Experience with process optimization, DOE/statistical analysis, yield improvement, and film metrology.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools, equipment, and lab instrumentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgment to independently troubleshoot issues and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to manage projects, prioritize competing demands, and proactively identify and address potential roadblocks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented R&D environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and DOE/statistical analysis software.
• Ability to work safely in a laboratory/cleanroom environment and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Able to travel up to 10% with the USA.
• Willing and able to relocate within the United States as required.

**Nice to have**

• 7+ years of semiconductor industry experience, preferably in high-volume manufacturing wafer fabs.
• Experience with PVD process integration across multiple fabrication steps.
• Experience developing or improving processes of record (POR).
• Experience supporting equipment installation, qualification, or vendor integration.
• Experience with advanced metrology techniques or analysis of thin-film properties.
• Experience working in an R&D or low-volume, high-complexity fabrication environment.

The Base Pay Range For This Role Is

113,000 - 155,000 USD per year (United States)
