About the Role

TMG Haartz Solutions is looking for a Product Engineer (R&D) to join our growing team in Bostic, NC. This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in the development of innovative automotive interior materials while working in a new, startup manufacturing environment.

The Product Engineer will support the development, validation, launch, and continuous improvement of PVC-based semi-finished and finished products used in automotive interior applications. You will work closely with R&D, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and other teams to turn customer requirements and new product concepts into production-ready materials.

This position is ideal for an engineer who is curious, proactive, analytical, and motivated to learn and wants the opportunity to make a visible impact as the organization grows.

International travel to Portugal is required for training. Training duration will vary based on the position and training plan.

What You'll Do

• Develop new PVC-based products and semi-finished materials based on customer and business requirements.
• Support customer development projects from RFQ through product validation and launch.
• Conduct product surveillance, market benchmarking, and technical research within assigned product areas.
• Develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation, including technical specifications, technical sheets, routings, and recipes.
• Create and maintain DFMEAs, Quality Houses, validation plans, and product checklists.
• Plan, execute, and document laboratory experiments, trials, and simulations.
• Investigate product, raw material, and process-related issues and develop effective technical solutions.
• Work directly with manufacturing teams to support new product launches, production readiness, and post-SOP troubleshooting.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to identify and resolve product, process, and quality challenges.
• Help identify opportunities for product, process, quality, and cost improvements.
• Support the transfer of new products and processes from development into manufacturing.
• Contribute technical knowledge and ideas as TMG Haartz Solutions continues to build and expand its R&D capabilities.

Technical Responsibilities & Decision-Making

As a Product Engineer, you will have meaningful technical ownership within assigned projects, including:

• Validating product and process checklists for production readiness.
• Defining and approving technical specifications for R&D project articles.
• Supporting the evaluation and approval of raw materials and semi-finished products in exceptional situations.
• Authorizing technical deviations in coordination with Production and Quality.
• Defining and validating manufacturing processes for new products.
• Providing technical recommendations throughout product development, validation, and launch.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field required.
• 3+ years of experience in product development, R&D, plastics, polymers, coatings, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
• Entry-level candidates with strong technical backgrounds and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
• Experience with PVC materials is strongly preferred.
• Experience with extrusion is a strong plus; casting experience is also beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hands-on, manufacturing-focused environment.
• Comfortable working across departments and communicating technical information to both engineering and operations teams.
• A proactive, adaptable approach and willingness to learn in a growing startup environment.
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally to Portugal for training.
