Position Overview

Xerox is seeking an experienced Sr. Chemical Engineer to join our Research & Development team in Webster, NY. This role will develop, scale, and implement manufacturing processes for chemically prepared toners, latexes, and pigment and wax dispersions—from laboratory development through pilot and full-production scale.

This position combines hands-on process development with manufacturing support and requires a strong understanding of how material selection and process conditions influence toner quality and performance. The Sr. Chemical Engineer will collaborate with materials development, quality, operations, suppliers, and program teams to improve process capability, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.

Why Join This Team

  • Help develop and scale innovative materials and manufacturing processes from the laboratory through full production.
  • Work at the intersection of research, product development, and manufacturing operations.
  • Lead projects that improve product quality, process capability, yield, cycle time, and manufacturing performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and external suppliers.
  • Contribute to the continued advancement of toner materials and manufacturing technologies.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, scale, and implement manufacturing processes for new and existing materials, including emulsion polymerization, emulsion aggregation, homogenization, dispersion, and blending.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations by troubleshooting process excursions and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Identify and implement improvements that increase yield, reduce cycle time, and strengthen first-pass quality.
  • Author and maintain manufacturing procedures, batch records, standard operating procedures, and other process documentation.
  • Lead structured problem-solving activities and apply statistical process control to monitor process capability and drive continuous improvement.
  • Design and execute experiments using Design of Experiments methodologies to define, optimize, and validate process windows.
  • Monitor developments in toner design and manufacturing technology and recommend potential applications for current and future products.
  • Source and qualify new or alternate raw materials and suppliers, including developing specifications and evaluating supplier-related changes.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable environmental, health, safety, and chemical regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with materials development, quality, operations, suppliers, and program teams.
  • Communicate technical findings, project updates, and recommendations through written reports and presentations.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least five years of experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes for new or existing products in a chemical, polymer, or specialty-materials environment.
  • Working knowledge of unit operations, mixing, heat and mass transfer, and batch-process scale-up.
  • Experience designing experiments and applying statistical analysis using tools such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving and design methodologies, such as DFLSS, Six Sigma, Shainin, or an equivalent methodology.
  • Experience sourcing and qualifying raw materials and evaluating supplier changes.
  • Understanding of chemical regulatory and environmental, health, and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across research, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of toner design and manufacturing or comparable latex, dispersion, or particle-formation technologies.
  • Experience with particle and material characterization techniques, including particle size and shape analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and rheology.
  • Experience using artificial intelligence and data-analysis tools for problem resolution and task management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to guide cross-functional technical initiatives.
