Job Summary

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), College of Engineering, University of Michigan, seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor faculty position. Applications are invited in all areas of materials science and engineering, but are particularly encouraged in sustainable metallurgy (including, but not limited to) critical minerals and metals, decarbonization of metals production and processing, and recyclability.

Required Qualifications*

We seek individuals who can develop and lead an externally-funded research program, collaborate across materials-related disciplines, teach undergraduate and graduate MSE courses, and provide service to the University and the materials profession. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related engineering or science discipline.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
