Role details
Hands-on lab role developing next-generation coatings
We’re looking for a scientist or technician with strong foundational knowledge who wants to do more than run the same tests every day. In this role you’ll work directly with our R&D team to formulate, apply, and test liquid paints, powder coatings, and specialty finishes for real customer applications in sustainable construction.
This is a dynamic, adaptive lab position—not routine QC. You’ll help create and refine methods, prepare lab-scale batches, and generate the data that drives formulation decisions.
What you’ll do
- Develop and adapt testing methods for unique customer projects instead of relying only on standard procedures
- Run both wet-state and cured-film testing (viscosity, gloss, color, adhesion, impact, flexibility, hardness, chemical/environmental resistance, and more)
- Prepare lab-scale liquid and powder coating batches using high-speed dispersers, bead mills, extruders, and milling equipment
- Apply coatings to metal, wood, plastic, and other substrates using spray, drawdown, and dip methods
- Maintain a clean, organized lab (5S) and follow strict EHS and PPE requirements
- Record data accurately in LIMS or notebooks, analyze results, and contribute to technical reports and SOPs
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a closely related field
- 0–3 years of laboratory experience (hands-on project or research experience preferred over routine assay work)
- Solid foundation in chemistry principles, especially polymers and physical chemistry
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to pivot between liquid and powder technologies
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort working in a lab environment (standing, occasional lifting up to ~40 lbs, exposure to solvents, powders, and curing ovens, and wearing required PPE including respirators)
Prior coatings, paints, or resins experience is a plus but not required—we value curiosity and adaptability more than industry-specific background.
Why this role
You’ll gain broad, practical experience across formulation, application, and testing in a real R&D setting. The work is varied, customer-driven, and gives clear ownership and learning opportunities for candidates building their laboratory skills.
If you want a lab role where you help solve real technical problems instead of just executing standard tests, apply.
