Job Description

As a Design Engineer at Avery Dennison, you will be a major contributor to our Research and Development Team within the Fastener Solutions Division in Fitchburg, MA. In this role, you will leverage strong product design experience to create precision plastic components, test fixtures, electro and pneumatic mechanisms, and machinery for worldwide distribution. You will plan, schedule, and execute multiple product development projects while collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Quality to deliver high-volume plastic products used primarily in the automotive, industrial, and retail industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work 1-2 days/week at our plant in Fitchburg, MA to support initiatives at the facility.
  • Design, analyze, prototype, and qualify new plastic components and mechanisms through internal project management processes.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute multiple product development projects simultaneously while meeting key deliverable deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Sales, Operations, and Quality to identify market needs (CTQ & VOC) and maintain high-volume manufacturing quality standards.
  • Diagnose and solve customer technical problems and troubleshoot quality complaints across the product portfolio.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in engineering and 6+ years of experience in the engineering design of plastic components, mechanisms, and high-volume automotive plastic parts.

  • Non-degreed candidates with 12+ years of experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in solid modeling CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) with deep comprehension of injection molding tooling and plastic materials.
  • Demonstrated experience with rapid prototyping processes, quality systems (ISO9001/IATF16949), and familiarization with APQP and PPAP procedures.
  • Proven problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to travel 10–20% on a global basis.

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $121,000/ year.
