Overview
Lucas Industries, a PCM Innovation Company, is a growing manufacturing organization specializing in precision aerospace tooling. We are currently seeking a motivated, dependable, and results-oriented Advanced Materials Engineer to lead our expanding composites department.
The Advanced Materials Engineer is responsible for the development, design, administration, and documentation of composite tooling products. This position ensures that all design, engineering, and operational activities within the department comply with company quality system procedures related to composite tooling.
This role requires a self-motivated professional who can build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, sales teams, manufacturing personnel, and customers. The Advanced Materials Engineer reports directly to the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical project management and daily supervision of the composites department.
- Identify and allocate adequate resources to projects and products to ensure design control, achievement of company objectives, successful project completion, and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor departmental performance and manage budgets to support efficient and effective operations.
- Supervise composite layups, custom vacuum bagging processes, oven and autoclave operations, hydraulic press operations, and associated equipment.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to identify needs and develop effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards and procedures throughout all composite manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of a variety of resin and matrix systems, with a strong emphasis on materials used in aircraft tooling and aerospace-related components.
- Experience with press operations, autoclave processing, and oven thermal processing utilizing vacuum bag methods.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software applications.
- Familiarity with CATIA or Surfcam software is preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, timely job completion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Prior supervisory or technical management experience is highly desirable.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with an advanced materials focus.
- Minimum of five years of industrial experience involving composite development, production, and/or design.
- Ability to read and interpret both 2D and 3D engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
