Job Title
Laboratory Technician
Position Description
Independent contractor role supporting the company/organisation Global Innovation Center by executing predefined laboratory tasks and generating accurate, timely documentation. Work is performed under approved procedures, methods, and work orders, with strong emphasis on safety, data integrity, compliance, and on-time delivery. Tasking and priorities are provided by the designated supervisor; work is coordinated via established systems.
Roles Responsibilities
- Safety first: complete required EHS training; review SDS; perform pre-task risk assessments; use required PPE; follow ventilation/exposure controls; keep good housekeeping; exercise stop-work authority; report incidents and near-misses promptly.
- Execute pre-approved experimental runs, sample preparation, and coating application, including, but not limited to, electrocoat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat, strictly per written methods and parameters.
- Operate mixing and spray/application equipment after training/qualification; follow documented set-up, verification/calibration, operation, and shutdown steps.
- Collect and record raw data, measurements, and environmental conditions in approved templates/systems (e.g., Excel, Word, Teams); submit completed data and documentation on schedule.
- Perform routine equipment checks and preventive maintenance per instruction; document results and escalate issues immediately.
- Handle, label, store, segregate, and dispose of chemicals per EHS procedures and regulatory requirements; maintain required records.
- Maintain inventory of assigned chemicals/consumables; request replenishment via defined process; use only approved materials and tools.
- Pause and seek guidance when anomalies/deviations occur; do not proceed with changes without direction; document observations and deviations.
- Support sample logistics (receiving, labeling, tracking, retention) to ensure traceability and data integrity.
- Communicate status and risks through established channels; protect confidential information and maintain accurate records.
Skills
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical/life-science field, or equivalent industrial lab experience executing SOP-driven work.
- Hands-on proficiency with mixing, spray/application, and standard lab test equipment per written instructions.
- Demonstrated safety record; knowledge of EHS practices, chemical hygiene, and waste handling; OSHA 10/30 or equivalent preferred.
- Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines while adhering to approved procedures; effective communication skills.
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical/life-science field, or equivalent industrial lab experience executing SOP-driven work.
