Position Summary

Qnity is seeking an R&D Synthetic Analytical Chemist to develop next-generation materials for advanced semiconductor circuits and packaging applications. This role will focus on the design, synthesis, characterization, and commercialization of novel polymers, monomers, oligomers, and functional materials that enable breakthrough performance in metallization and advanced interconnect technologies. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in polymer and organic synthesis with a strong understanding of electrochemistry and organic and inorganic materials characterization and preparation.

This individual will serve as a technical expert, collaborating across R&D, Scale-up Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Supply Chain to bring innovative materials from concept through commercialization and advance data-driven fundamental learning. This position is 100% onsite at our Marlborough, Massachusetts, facility. What You’ll Do Design and synthesize innovative polymers, monomers, oligomers, and functional materials for advanced semiconductor circuit and packaging applications.

Develop new material platforms by applying polymer chemistry, organic synthesis, and structure-property-performance principles to meet customer and product requirements, with a focus on electrochemical properties. Characterize materials using advanced analytical techniques and apply data-driven decision-making to accelerate product development. Lead and support research projects from concept through commercialization, including early scale-up, process safety, intellectual property generation, and Stage-Gate execution. Evaluate scientific literature, patent landscapes, and competitive technologies to identify innovation opportunities and guide technical strategy.

Collaborate with global R&D, Scale-up Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to advance fundamental learning and product development. Mentor junior scientists and engineers while promoting technical excellence, rigorous documentation, and strong experimental practices. Support a global innovation team by sharing knowledge, presenting technical findings, and contributing to Qnity’s expanding materials portfolio. What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Synthetic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or a related discipline. Strong understanding of structure-proption, and scale-up strategies for polymers, monomers, and specialty chemicals.

Strong experimental design, problem-solving, and data-analysis skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across global teams and time zones. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing materials for semiconductor packaging, advanced electronics, or microelectronics applications. Hands-on experience with electroplating and plating-bath formulation. Knowledge of semiconductor-grade contamination control, analytical cleanliness standards, and quality systems. Experience with Design of Experiments, including tools such as JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical software. Experience with materials and chemical computational modeling and predictive data analytics. Familiarity with air-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, or controlled-atmosphere synthetic techniques.

Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience in a cross-functional R&D environment. #LI-AP1 Join our Talent Community to stay connected with us! Qnity is an equal opportunity employer.
