Project Engineer

Role details

Medbio is seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to lead new tooling and product-launch projects at our Orchard Park facility. This role is responsible for managing assigned projects from receipt of the tooling purchase order and project kickoff through successful completion of production qualification.

The Project Engineer serves as a key technical and project-management resource, coordinating activities across Engineering, Quality, Tooling, Operations, Sales, and other functions to ensure customer requirements, timelines, quality expectations, and project objectives are achieved.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys managing complex technical projects, solving problems, working directly with cross-functional teams, and seeing projects transition successfully from concept and tooling through production.

What You’ll Do

• Project & Launch Management
• Lead assigned tooling, transfer, and new-product launch projects from project kickoff through production qualification and release.
• Develop project plans, define tasks, establish timelines, and track project progress against key milestones.
• Ensure customer launch expectations, commitments, deliverables, and timelines are clearly understood and achieved.
• Maintain accurate project tracking and reporting, including launch timing, milestones, resource requirements, risks, and open actions.
• Identify and communicate potential schedule, scope, cost, quality, or resource issues that could impact project success.
• Define project scope and monitor for changes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate scope changes and support adjustments to project plans, quotations, timelines, or resources with appropriate management approval.
• Assess project risks, establish mitigation plans, assign actions, and monitor progress through resolution.

Engineering & Technical Support

• Support tooling design, tool builds, tool grooming, sampling, and qualification activities.
• Provide technical support related to injection molding, tooling, manufacturability, process development, and production-launch requirements.
• Coordinate engineering support for process development, production-line readiness, tooling specifications, bills of material, and project documentation.
• Support appropriate qualification and validation activities required for new and transferred products.
• Review technical information, dimensional results, drawings, specifications, and project requirements to identify and resolve issues.
• Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions associated with launch or production issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Coordinate project teams and facilitate regular project-review meetings.
• Partner closely with:
• Operations and Plant Leadership
• Quality Engineering
• Tool Design and Tool Build teams
• Sales, Global Account Managers, Account Executives, and Customer Service
• IT and Business Systems
• Suppliers and external tooling partners
• Serve as a primary technical and project contact for assigned programs.
• Communicate project status, risks, priorities, and decisions clearly to internal stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Production Support

• Support continuous-improvement, quality, engineering, and production initiatives.
• Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new processes, technologies, and manufacturing solutions.
• Support products transitioning from launch into routine production.
• Facilitate post-project reviews to identify lessons learned, project wins, and opportunities for improvement.
• Help improve project-management and engineering processes to increase consistency, quality, and launch effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Project engineering, manufacturing engineering, program management, or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with plastic injection molding and injection mold tooling strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting new-product introductions, tooling launches, manufacturing transfers, or production launches preferred.
• Understanding of project-management fundamentals, including scope, schedule, risk, resources, and change management.
• General knowledge of automation systems and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret product drawings, tooling drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP/MRP systems.
• CAD experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of ISO, validation, GMP, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, customers, suppliers, and technical resources.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
