Role details
CCC Plastics is seeking an experienced Temporary Contract Process Engineer to support the planning, design, and start-up of our new U.S. manufacturing facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys building operations from the ground up and wants the flexibility of a part-time consulting role.
The position is ideal for a semi-retired engineer, independent consultant, or professional seeking a flexible work arrangement while contributing to a significant manufacturing expansion.
Position Summary
The Contract Process Engineer will work closely with our Canadian engineering and maintenance teams to assist with the design, layout, and implementation of manufacturing processes and plant infrastructure. The role requires on-site work in Athens, Ohio, as well as occasional trips to Canada. Expected duration of this role will be 6-10 months.
The successful candidate will bring practical manufacturing engineering experience, strong project planning skills, and the ability to mentor and collaborate effectively across locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with overall plant layout and facility design.
- Develop recommendations for manufacturing equipment and process flow.
- Design and optimize:
o Raw material storage and handling
o Production areas
o Office and laboratory layouts
o Utilities and support systems
o Material handling systems
o Extrusion lines
o Dust collection systems
o Chilled water systems
o Post-production processing areas
- Evaluate equipment options and provide technical recommendations.
- Support facility planning to maximize safety, efficiency, and future growth.
- Equipment installation, commissioning, and start up support
- Collaborate with and support, Canadian engineering staff on design reviews and technical questions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Industrial, or related discipline).
- Professional Engineer designation.
- Experience designing or expanding manufacturing facilities is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of plastics manufacturing in twin screw extrusion, 20+ years work experience highly desired
- Strong understanding of plant utilities, material flow, and production optimization.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally (Canada).
