Role details

Job Description Postdoctoral Associate: Tissue Engineering Scaffolds for Nerve Regeneration Location: Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT), Hoboken, New Jersey A postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaojun Yu (SIT). Background: Development of tissue engineering scaffolds for nerve regeneration is an emerging research area. We seek a postdoctoral research associate for completion of tasks related to a funded grant.

Key Responsibilities

(1) Develop techniques to produce tissue engineering scaffolds via electrospinning and 3D printing for placement within appropriate animal models of nerve injury. (2) Functionalize the scaffolds with decellularized extracellular matrices, small molecules and growth factors to promote nerve regeneration. (3) Develop techniques to characterize the tissue engineering scaffolds. (4) Develop appropriate in vitro cell culture models to assess cellular response to the materials. (5) Learn and develop appropriate surgical, histology, and imaging techniques for analysis of biomaterial interactions with nerve tissue.

(6) Work with colleagues at SIT to develop collaborative projects of interest to the applicant. (7) Prepare documents for the dissemination of research findings at national meetings and/or publications in research journals. Skills and Qualifications: Education Level: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science, or Biological Sciences (or appropriate discipline) with background in biomaterial development/characterization/cell culture and/or exposure to animal models of nerve injury. To apply, please send a cover letter highlighting research and long--term goals, a detailed CV, and the names and email addresses of three references to Dr.
