Role details
Department of Chemistry The Lafayette College Department of Chemistry is searching for a Visiting Assistant Professor (non-tenure-track) to join the department ideally starting January 2027 through the 2027-2028 academic year. The specific teaching assignments will focus on introductory (general) chemistry, with possible other courses, particularly in organic chemistry or biochemistry, depending on the candidate's specific expertise, prior teaching experience, and departmental needs. The teaching load for visiting assistant professors at Lafayette College is three lecture courses each semester; two three-hour laboratory sections are equivalent to a lecture course.
While not a requirement, opportunities and support are available for the successful candidate to mentor students on research projects. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree are strongly preferred, although highly-qualified and experienced candidates nearing completion of the doctoral degree (ABD) will receive consideration. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Applicants should upload their materials at apply.interfolio.com/195854. Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching expertise and philosophy (1-2 pages), and they should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted by the evaluators by November 6, 2026 to receive full consideration.
Within the submitted materials, candidates should address how their teaching, scholarship, and/or service will support both Lafayette’s mission and values and the Department’s commitment to creating a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community. Prospective applicants with inquiries about the position can contact Chip Nataro, Marshall R. Metzgar Professor, Head of Chemistry, and Chair of the Search Committee at [email protected] or 610-330-5216.
