About GEHR Plastics

GEHR Plastics is an established manufacturer of semi-finished engineered thermoplastic products, specializing in extruded rod, sheet, slab and other stock shapes used across a wide range of industrial applications. Our operations process standard, engineering and high-performance thermoplastics, requiring technical expertise, precision and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

We are seeking two motivated, hands-on Process Engineers to support our Boothwyn manufacturing team. The role supports extrusion operations, improves manufacturing efficiency and product quality, and develops reliable, repeatable processes. The engineer works directly on the production floor with extrusion operators, Maintenance, Quality and plant leadership to resolve manufacturing challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on engineering and technical support for thermoplastic extrusion operations.
  • Evaluate and optimize process parameters to improve quality, stability and efficiency.
  • Reduce scrap, improve material yield and throughput, and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving materials, tooling, equipment, temperature, pressure, cooling and dimensional stability.
  • Apply root-cause analysis, SPC, DOE and other continuous-improvement methods as appropriate.
  • Develop, document and maintain operating parameters, procedures and best practices.
  • Support new-product development, material trials, tooling changes and process validation.
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance and Quality on equipment and process issues.
  • Analyze production data, identify trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support equipment installations, process changes and improvement projects.
  • Coach operators in process understanding, troubleshooting and quality requirements.
  • Promote safety, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics, Polymer, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials or related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Thermoplastic extrusion, polymer processing or related plastics manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of extrusion equipment, tooling, material properties and process optimization.
  • Familiarity with engineered thermoplastics and rigid or heavy-section extruded products is valuable.
  • Experience with SPC, DOE, Lean, Six Sigma or similar methods is beneficial.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with plant teams and troubleshoot hands-on.

Experience with semi-finished engineered thermoplastic rod, sheet or slab extrusion is especially desirable.

Candidates with related plastics-processing experience, as well as recent engineering graduates with relevant education and strong mechanical aptitude, are encouraged to apply.

Why GEHR?

This is a production-floor engineering opportunity involving diverse engineered and high-performance thermoplastics, challenging process problems, direct collaboration with experienced manufacturing teams, and measurable improvements to quality and efficiency.
