Role details

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking highly motivated individuals to tackle manufacturing challenges on both mass production and pilot lines. In this role, you will work supporting engineers to develop an advanced new product and be among the first individuals to work on cutting-edge manufacturing processes within Tesla.

This specific role focuses on characterization and metrology support for battery electrode manufacturing. You will operate in a fast-paced environment, developing multiple skills while making an immediate impact on the future of electric vehicles.

As part of this team, you will be a problem solver and idea contributor, bringing a get-it-done attitude while successfully developing new technical skills to grow your career.

What You'll Do

  • Support engineering activities with offline and inline metrology system engineering and related tasks for powder/film/electrode manufacturing
  • Be trained and operate offline metrology and characterization tools (at development stage) on samples from various manufacturing processes. Conduct measurements, analytical tests, and experimental runs on the equipment, be able to measure and record data using defined tools and software, document and report observations
  • Install, maintain, test, and validate offline and inline metrology tools
  • Immediately report emergencies, incidents, and near misses to the engineering
  • Support inline tool calibrations, monitor tool health monitoring dashboards, report and resolve tool downtime, calibration issues, and develop OCAP procedures and PFMEA, and train production and maintenance technicians
  • Independently document operating procedures and data in a standard format and cross train to be competent in multiple work areas
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of safety, quality, output, and tool uptime

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Optics, Mechatronics, Materials, Mechanical, etc.), or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience in OQC, IQC, metrology and characterization for battery, semiconductor, optics, or small-scale manufacturing
  • Experience with operating and troubleshooting manufacturing, assembly, and metrology equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints (mechanical and electrical)
  • Excellent at documentation and reporting processes/procedures for manufacturing, maintenance, quality control, etc.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze measurement and process data to summarize results (familiarity with JMP, Python, is a big plus)
  • Familiarity with metrology tools (automated recipe, critical dimension, CD-SEM, ellipsometry) and characterization equipment (Microscopy, XRF, XRF, SEM, ICP, FIB, CMM, etc.) would be a plus, with a strong desire to learn new techniques during the development stage

Essential Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
