Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead an experimental research program in the area of composite materials and structural integrity. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting experimental investigations, analyzing and interpreting experimental data, and contributing to research outcomes and publications.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a strong background in experimental mechanics, composite materials, structural engineering, or a related field. Experience in mechanical testing, experimental characterization, and non-destructive testing would be advantageous.

The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team and have access to well-established laboratory facilities and experimental equipment.

Main responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct experimental investigations on composite materials and bonded structures.
  • Prepare specimens and carry out mechanical and experimental characterization.
  • Apply appropriate non-destructive testing and monitoring techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data and contribute to high-quality research publications.
  • Contribute to project reporting, presentations, and collaboration with research partners.
  • Support the supervision of PhD and MSc students.

Qualifications

  • PhD in mechanical, materials, civil, aerospace or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in experimental mechanics of polymers, composites or adhesive joints, specimen preparation, servo-hydraulic or electrodynamic testing, and fatigue testing.
  • Working knowledge of fracture mechanics and/or damage mechanics.
  • Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage.
  • Ability to plan and sustain a long, disciplined test campaign independently, and to keep rigorous records.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Application Instructions

Please submit, as a single PDF, to Gilles Lubineau (With a systematic cc to Xiaole Li and Rizwan Bajwa), quoting reference [Post Doc-MCEM23–Residual Life Assessment RTR]:

  • A cover letter (max. 2 pages) explaining your fit against the criteria above, with specific reference to your experimental experience;
  • A full CV including a publication list;
  • Contact details for two or three referees;
  • One representative publication or thesis chapter.
