Job Description
Materials Informatics Team
- We are seeking a Battery Research Technician to join our research team in Santa Clara, California. This position will provide hands-on support for battery material preparation, electrode fabrication, cell assembly, electrochemical testing, laboratory operation, and experimental data management.
- The technician will work closely with engineers and researchers in a collaborative R&D laboratory environment.
- With a focus on vehicle electrification and the development of next-generation energy storage technologies, Battery Team combines experimental research, computational materials science, materials informatics and data science to accelerate battery material and cell development.
Position Summary
The Battery Research Technician will perform hands-on experimental activities related to battery materials and cells.
Primary responsibilities include preparing materials and electrodes, assembling battery cells, conducting electrochemical measurements, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and accurately documenting
experimental procedures and results.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a commitment to laboratory safety, good manual dexterity, and the ability to perform repeatable experimental work according to established procedures.
This position requires effective collaboration with researchers, engineers, and other team members to support project objectives and experimental timelines
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in battery experiments, including one or more of the following: battery material preparation, electrode fabrication, cell assembly, electrochemical testing, or battery performance evaluation.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity, with the ability to perform accurate and repeatable experimental work involving small components, laboratory tools, and equipment.
- Ability to follow written experimental procedures, technical instructions, and environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Basic computer and data management skills, including the ability to accurately record, organize, and review experimental information using Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to maintain concentration during routine experimental work, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing project priorities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lithium-ion batteries, all-solid-state batteries, or other rechargeable battery technologies.
- Experience with multiple stages of battery experimentation, such as material synthesis, slurry preparation, electrode coating, coin-cell or pouch-cell assembly, glovebox operation, electrochemical testing, and material characterization.
- Experience operating and maintaining battery research equipment, such as mixers, coaters, calenders, ball mills, furnaces, vacuum ovens, gloveboxes, battery cyclers, potentiostats, microscopes, or related laboratory equipment.
- Experience supporting safe and organized laboratory operations, including chemical handling, consumables management, equipment maintenance, sample tracking, and experimental documentation.
- Familiarity with experimental data processing and visualization using Microsoft Excel, Python, or similartools.
Education
- High School Diploma is must
- An associate degree is preferred
Additional Notes
- Assemble chemical experiment for batteries – many different items, will do both Will work with battery researcher
- They are fundamental research side, main scope is materials – confirm material properties by experiment. Make small amount of chemical, make small battery, will spend most of the time in the lab.
- Do a lot of material tests, make cells, variations, make electrodes, small cells
- Dry electrode right not, not a lot of slurry
- Hands on experience – all the materials, electrodes, etc.
- Electrode and assembly
- Battery lab in the garage area
