Role details

R&D Validation and Process Engineer, Materials

Location: Huntington Beach, CA (Onsite) Compensation: $105,000 - $115,000 (Depending on Experience)

About the Role

SprintRay is redefining digital dentistry by offering the industry's only complete 3D printing solution, seamlessly integrating cutting-edge technology, advanced materials, clinical education, and dedicated customer support throughout the customer journey. As an R&D Validation and Process Engineer, Materials, you will play a critical, hands-on role in validating 3D printing materials, optimizing complex resin processing parameters, and ensuring seamless end-to-end performance across SprintRay's digital dentistry ecosystem.

Working in close collaboration with materials scientists, workflow optimization specialists, hardware engineers, and validation teams, you will establish rigorous validation protocols for next-generation dental photopolymers, evaluate material properties from bench scale through production, and author comprehensive process validation reports based on thorough hands-on testing. This is a fully on-site position ideal for a data-driven engineer with a strong background in materials characterization, additive manufacturing process optimization, and technical report writing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and document comprehensive validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) for new 3D printing materials, photopolymer resins, and complete post-processing workflows.
  • Evaluate mechanical, thermal, and dimensional properties of printed parts to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with clinical standards.
  • Optimize 3D printing process parameters (e.g., exposure profiles, layer thickness, light intensity) and post-curing regimes to maximize photopolymer performance, dimensional accuracy, and print reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional workflow, validation, and hardware teams to support scale-up, tech transfer, and process optimization for chemical manufacturing and resin bottling lines.
  • Lead design of experiments (DOE) to investigate resin stability, print reliability, and failure modes across different hardware platforms.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization in workshop area.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures constantly.
  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis on user experience to drive product features and reliability improvements.
  • Monitor top product failure modes and provide manufacturing knowledge to QA to reduce production costs.
  • Maintain a functional Mechanical workshop and maintain inventory level of the R&D department
  • Perform rigorous hands-on laboratory testing and author detailed process validation reports, technical documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support product qualification.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in materials validation, process engineering, quality assurance, or product development within polymer synthesis or additive manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of photopolymerization chemistry, resin formulations, and additive technologies.
  • Hands-on experience operating SLA/DLP 3D printers, post-processing hardware, and materials testing equipment (e.g., tensile/flexural testing, viscosity, UV curing analysis).
  • Proven expertise in conducting hands-on materials testing and drafting thorough, publishable process validation reports and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of polymer and materials science principles, including structure-property relationships.
  • Familiarity with dental materials, additive manufacturing, or medical device products is preferred.
  • Experience supporting process development, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical, data-driven approach.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
  • Exceptional technical writing, data analysis, and cross-functional communication skills, with a track record of effective collaboration across workflow, validation, and R&D engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
