CIE USA-Century Plastics, a division of the global enterprise CIE Automotive, is seeking a talented Tooling Engineer to join our team.

Reports to: Injection Molding Tooling Manager

Primary Purpose

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for supporting the engineering and manufacturing teams with primary tooling (injection molds, compression molds, and RIM tooling) needs. Manages production & prototype tooling requirements to drive the company forward.

Essential Functions

  • Create and maintain tooling spec packages for new business quoting
  • Responsible for working within and meeting tooling budget for tooling requirements
  • Responsible for assisting and developing tooling budgets new model programs
  • Drive Product Engineers to make sure product design meets best practices
  • Support Product Engineering team with design feasibility
  • Prepare and issue RFQ’s for all primary tools
  • Ensure RFQ packages are accurate for quoting
  • RFQ follow up with purchasing and ensure summary documents are completed
  • Trouble shoot and resolve production tool related issues if needed
  • Support manufacturing team as required
  • Production & Prototype Build - Phases / Tools / Pre-Production Builds:
  • Support Customer Meetings
  • Support all Production & Prototype molding trials
  • Lead tooling design reviews with suppliers
  • Assist sales & cost estimating team with budgetary tooling cost
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure all deliverables are met
  • Obtain weekly timing charts from suppliers and distribute to team
  • Lead the development of new plastic injection tooling projects to meet a wide range of product performance and cosmetic requirements.
  • Track & ensure tools meet program required milestones
  • Maintain & Update CIE Molding Standards

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in injection molding tooling design and manufacturing required.
  • Position requires 5+ years in the mold making and molding industry.
  • BS or MS Plastics Engineer preferred or equivalent work experience in a technical field.
  • Proficient at Word, Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Project
  • Ability to manage and track multiple programs
  • Working knowledge of molding operations that are relevant to our company
  • Good communication and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to navigate through the manufacturing floors without assistance
  • Able to lift 30 lbs. occasionally (part, boxes, etc.)
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally with passport (primarily within United States and Canada, but also including Mexico and Europe)
