Colorist (3rd Shift)

Brief Description

The Colorist is responsible for monitoring and correcting production color utilizing existing formulas and spectrophotometer software.

Work Schedule

3rd shift. Hours are 11pm to 7am Sunday-Thursday with overtime as required including potential for weekend work.. Training is required on 1st shift for a few months. Hours are 7am to 3pm.

Responsibilities

• Formulate new color formulations for plastic materials that meet the customers specification.
• Monitor production color and make corrections to improve likeness to customer specifications.
• Monitor color process and correct lab color samples utilizing existing samples.
• Operate twin and single screw extruders, and injection molding machines to create color chips
• Maintains a clean working environment
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work process, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
• Excellent attention to detail required
• Must be able to operate/monitor equipment during operation to ensure quality production
• Read and follow manuals and procedures
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace
• Must be dependable and have excellent attendance
• Possess a positive attitude
• Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed, up to every other weekend
• Willing and able to work in temperature extremes – hot and cold
• Must be able to pass a forklift test and a respirator fit test
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English

Education And Experience

• Passing score on the RTP Company Color Test
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous manufacturing experience preferred

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

This position must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. regularly and stand for an 8-hour shift. Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, respirators, face shield, hearing protection, Tyveksuit, gloves, etc. Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level may be possible. Proper personal safety equipment is to be used while performing this job as pointed out by plant safety procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents. Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous materials as defined by the OSHA Hazard Communication standard.
