Tenure-track assistant professor researching catalysis and teaching chemical engineering courses.
Worth knowing
Why it is interesting. Collaborate with the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience and Nebraska Energy Sciences Research Center on catalytic materials and interfaces.
Might not be for you. Catalysis-focused, not polymer science — polymer PhDs would need to pivot; requires building an externally funded program from scratch.

Working Title
Assistant Professor - Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Department
Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering-1058
Description Of Work
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date in the 2027–2028 academic year.
The department seeks an outstanding candidate who will establish a nationally visible, externally funded research program in catalysis and contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Catalysis is a core discipline in chemical engineering and a central enabling technology for advances in energy, sustainability, advanced materials, agriculture, and value-added chemical manufacturing.
Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis; electrocatalysis and photocatalysis; biocatalysis; catalytic materials and interfaces; reaction engineering and kinetics; computational and data-enabled catalysis; integrated experimental–computational approaches; decarbonization; hydrogen technologies; carbon capture, utilization, and conversion; biofuels and biobased manufacturing; and catalysis for advanced manufacturing. Candidates whose work complements and expands existing departmental strengths are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong scholarly record and externally funded research program; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical engineering, including courses related to reaction engineering, kinetics, and catalysis as appropriate; mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with faculty engaged in experimental and computational catalysis and with campus research entities including the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience and the Nebraska Energy Sciences Research Center.
The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering provides an outstanding environment for research and education, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the broader University of Nebraska system. The department’s strategic growth in catalysis will support research and workforce development in areas important to Nebraska and the broader Midwest while enhancing competitiveness for federal and collaborative research initiatives.
