JOB SUMMARY
Westlake Roofing and Stone is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to develop, configure, and optimize our industrial manufacturing processes from inception through start-up. In this role, you will bridge engineering and plant operations—analyzing production data, troubleshooting equipment, and leading process improvement projects. You will ensure our manufacturing systems consistently deliver high-quality products that meet both strict internal specifications and evolving customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Safety Leadership: Place the utmost importance on working safely. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment for self and others at all times in strict compliance with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Process & Product Specification (Core Focus): Establish, define, and document the precise product and process specifications required to manufacture Westlake Roofing products. Determine how our manufacturing equipment must be configured and run to successfully meet these standards and fulfill customer requirements. Develop, maintain, and optimize Bills of Materials (BOMs) within SAP for new and existing products, ensuring alignment between material structures, process specifications, and production capabilities.
- Project Management: Define project scope, timelines, deliverables, and budgets in collaboration with Project Managers and Engineering. Ensure the integrity of project execution from inception to start-up.
- Data, Testing, & Certification: Assess industrial processes by taking measurements, interpreting data, and assisting with official process certifications. Provide analytical support to the National Lab for reporting on technical product and process issues.
- Plant Technical Support: Provide engineering leadership and support to the plants by developing technical modifications to existing equipment and workflows. Compile and deliver clear training materials to plant teams regarding newly established process standards. Analyze raw material consumption and troubleshoot variances through SAP and production data, performing root cause analysis to link material performance with process conditions and equipment capability. Use these insights to validate process performance and identify opportunities for process and machinery improvements that enhance product quality and cost effectiveness.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Specification & Standard Development: Deep understanding of how to translate product design requirements into actionable manufacturing specifications, process recipes, and equipment operating windows.
- Equipment Capability Analysis: Strong ability to observe, identify, deduce, and troubleshoot mechanical and process issues. Skilled at assessing machine capabilities to determine if existing equipment can hit required tolerances.
- Data Interpretation & Industrial Math: Advanced analytical and mathematical skills to interpret raw production data, run trials, and analyze process measurements to establish baselines.
- Project Management & Execution: Proven ability to define project milestones, manage timelines, obtain agreements on scope/costs, and work under minimal supervision to drive a project from inception to start-up.
- Technical Literacy & Software: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical procedures. High technical aptitude with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel preferred), MS Project, and SAP. Basic AutoCAD and SolidWorks are a plus.
- Communication & Training: Strong written and verbal communication skills to author clear manufacturing standards, document technical procedures, and effectively deliver training material to plant operators and leadership.
- Industry Knowledge (Strongly Preferred): Injection molding process experience, equipment knowledge and mold design exposure, metal stamping and roll forming, concrete manufacturing processes, raw materials, and heavy industrial mixing/forming equipment are highly desirable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, or related field
- 5 years of experience in manufacturing settings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Mobility & Travel: Ability to travel up to 50%, but typically 25%, to support manufacturing facilities. Ability to safely traverse and move about heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand or remain stationary for prolonged periods, bend, twist, complete repetitive movements, and safely lift/transport up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Comfortable working around heavy machinery with exposure to elevated noise levels, dust, and industrial chemicals.
- PPE: Must be willing and able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hard-hat protection) at all times.
