Role Description
Systems Engineer with a hardware background. Responsible for Systems/HW development and the validation of Element Energy’s Advanced Battery Management products. The job involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Firmware, Mechanical Engineering and Software, as well as Customer and Compliance Engineering.
Location / Travel
- Element’s Menlo Park Office. Travel to production and/or customer sites as necessary.
Salary / Equity
- Staff to Senior Staff range dependent on skills and experience.
Credentials
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or closely related field, and 7+ years of related experience. Regardless of degree, a solid understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals is essential.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, or closely related field and 5+ years of related experience.
Responsibilities
- Design and validate Battery Management System (BMS) for grid storage and data center applications.
- Design of Highly Efficient Power Conversion Solutions (DC-DC converter). Explore new architectures, model new power topologies and related control techniques to improve performance.
- System prototyping: component selection, schematic design, PCB layout design guidance.
- Create and execute test plans to validate designs for functional and performance goals; design and execution of product level testing with a focus on safety, reliability, risk mitigation and FMEA.
- Write requirement documents, application notes, user guides, and datasheets.
Preferred Skills
- BMS design and characterization techniques.
- Deep experience in DC-DC converters and control loop design.
- Functional safety development processes and lifecycles.
- Analog/digital circuit design, micro-processors, and serial communication interfaces.
- Knowledge of battery chemistry, characteristics, and performance.
- Knowledge of grid-tied storage systems and how they function and interact with the grid.
- Working with high power and/or high voltage products
- Knowledge of UL and other certification requirements for functionality and functional safety.
